M. Meyer-Pyritz
German (1868-1929) Bronze with black marble base Signed lower right 10 1/4 inches high with base Martin A.R. Meyer-Pyritz was a pupil of P. Breuer and E. Herter and a brother of the sculptor Georg R. Meyer-Steglitz. He studied at the Berlin Art Academy from 1892 until 1896 and was active with a studio of the Academy from 1899. Meyer created many of the animal sculptures in the Berlin Zoo. He received commissions for animal sculptures from several German cities and towns.
