Charles Knight

Charles Robert Knight was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1874 and died in New York City in 1953. He was a painter, illustrator, writer, lecturer, sculptor and lithographer. Living his professional life in Manhattan, Knight studied at the Arts Student League (NYC) and with George deForest Brush, F.V. Dumond and the Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute. His work is represented in many museums including the American Museum of Natural History, the Field Museum in Chicago; L.A. Museum of Natural History, Hayden Planetarium and more.  He was known for his lecturers in museums about wildlife and prehistoric man and animals. He wrote and illustrated “Prehistoric Life,” in National Geographic Magazine, 1940. During the WPA he painted wildlife and prehistoric murals and in 1935 he was author/illustrator of Before the Dawn of History. In 1946 he wrote and illustrated Life Through the Ages.
