Mina Ochtman

Mina Fonda Ochtman was born in Laconia, New Hampshire, on March 28, 1862, and she drew from childhood. In her early twenties, she studied at New York’s Art Student League and landscape painting with Leonard Ochtman, who became her life-long painting partner and husband.

She was a member of the American Water Color Society, the Chicago Water Color Club, the National Association of Women Painters in 1889, and the Greenwich Art Society.

She is listed in Who Was Who in American Art (p. 497) and Who’s Who Annuals through 1924.  She is remembered for her confident draftsmanship and controlled impressionistic brushwork in landscapes, genres and still life subjects, although she illustrated children books in a super realistic style during the 1890s. She died in Cos Cob, Connecticut, in April, 1924.
